NYPD
The editorial team recently posted Quick Do’s and Don’ts for reviewers. They are meant to be helpful recommendations; we certainly do not intend to police our reviewers.
One of the Do’s that we posted is particularly important because it will make everybody’s life and job much easier. Rather than writing your comments as one long narrative, with long paragraphs, please consider using a numbering system (e.g., 1, 2, 3 …; or 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1. …) for each major point. Then, associate editors and editors (when considering your points) and authors (when writing revision notes) can easily refer to your comments. Just consider this as my kind and polite thought of the week:
NYPD (Number Your Points, DA**IT)!
